Entry Three —
Why we're doing this
Most things get built because there's already a big market for them. We started August Fog for the opposite reason: for the frustrations everyone else had decided weren't worth the trouble.
Small problems, mostly. The kind you learn to work around instead of fix, because no company sees enough money in fixing them to bother. We think that's a bad reason to leave something broken. If a thing is used every day, it deserves to be made with care. Not because it's ambitious, but because care is rare enough now that its absence is what people actually notice.
So the things we make will be small. They won't do everything, and they won't try to hold your attention longer than the task requires. What they will have is the level of finish we'd want if we were the ones using them. Which, mostly, we are.
We'll write more here when there's something worth saying: a decision that was harder than it looked, a thing we got wrong, or a detail we're proud of. Consider this a first note as we get started.
